OUR HISTORY

Kvuno was founded in 2018 with the mandate of scaling up access to certified seed, fresh fruit and vegetable and soil hubs to improve crop production and optimise harvest. Kvuno started off as a project under Solidaridad Southern Africa designed to; curb the food losses that were as a result of poor access to markets; low food variety and increased income. Whilst this was a project delivery, more insights and valuable evidence arose based on the farmer needs on the ground. Through conversations with farmers, agricultural stakeholders, private sector and government agencies, there was an expression of interest  to provide services to small-scale farmers in an affordable, efficient and transparent way whilst segmenting the small-scale farmers’ visibility across the agricultural value chain.

Pewo

Pewo Is our initial business line that, facilitates access to certified potato and soy seeds in Angonia, boosting farmers’ income in the Tete region. It ensures timely seed access for on-season planting, expanding its reach to Lilongwe Province in Malawi and Katete in Zambia’s Eastern Province, forming the Chinyanja Triangle economic transboundary region.

E’fres and Kvuno Soil Labs

E’fres and Kvuno Soil Labs were established to address agricultural challenges. E’fres combats post-harvest losses and supports smallholder farmers by providing pack-house facilities in Manica and Maputo Provinces, aiding in harvest management and market access for Mozambique and neighbors. Kvuno Soil Labs, aware of climate change’s impact on soil quality, promotes optimal food production. They offer affordable soil testing services, enhancing soil health and management education for smallholders. Their timely reports and recommendations have resulted in a notable 21% crop production increase, supporting resilience and economic growth in the agricultural sector.

K'fuya, Z'wardy, Vuno-Go and Malimbewu

In this year, three services were launched to empower and support smallholder farmers. K’fuya, a poultry business, promotes increase in protein availability in the rural economy. Z’wardy was introduced to facilitate, promote and motivate farmers to adopt good practices, and sustain their livelihoods while providing healthy and nutritious food. Vuno-go, born during the Covid-19 pandemic, offers micro-logistics e-hailing services to transport produce from local farms to markets, ensuring income for farmers. Malimbewu focuses on financial literacy and readiness, facilitating access to finance and inputs through loans and savings, benefiting farmers.

Vuno Sekls and K'Pura

Two service lines were launched to support smallholder farmers. Vuno Sekls provided localised digital aggregation to farmers, fostering a sense of belonging and promoting good practices and expanding service provision and financial readiness. It represented a leap in technology adaptation in rural African communities. K’pura aimed to reduce food waste and increase harvest production, through efficient harvest management. This service benefits smallholder farmers by lowering labour costs and increasing the availability of well packaged harvested seed.
